Munich- Marienplatz

Mariensaule, which means Saint Mary's Column.
This was built in 1638 to give thanks to the Swedes for not pillaging the city.
It is 36 feet high and a symbolic center of the city.

Neues Rathaus, which means Munich Town Hall.

It was built between 1867 and 1909. It has a 279 foot tower.

He is real, not a statue.

A man was painting this on the sidewalk.

Jon's Haircut

Can you believe I am shaving Jon's head?

Not quite finished but this is where the razor stopped working.

A few days later with the new razor.

More Downtown

This building is called the Rathaus or the Townhall.
The most precious room of the townhall is the Rathausprunksaal which is the audience-hall where the bride and the groom of the historic wedding of 1475 had their first dance togeather. The wedding is the most important history to this town.

This is down one of the streets. We liked the way it looked.

This is also a side street. Look how norrow it is.

This is the river in our town.

GroB Kaffee

We went to the Chocolate Cafe for coffee.

This is called a GroB Kaffee which means large coffee. ( The B makes a "ss" sound)

I didn't really know how big it was going to be until I got it.

It was almost as big as a bowl of soup.

Downtown

This pretty building downtown is called the Alte Post. The painting is so detailed. The people painted on the building are the most important princes of the Wittelsbacher. During the 16th century this building was used as a place to meet for the local governement. A few centuries later this building became the post office and so it is still named "Alte Post" today.

Part of the street downtown.

The main part of downtown at night.

Altstadt is normally the german expression for the old centre of any town, but in Landshut it is the name of the main street. Isn't it so pretty and almost fake looking.

The buildings are so colorful.

Basketball Court

This is the inside of the gym.

Festival

Inside the tent at a festival in our town.

Jon with his big beer.

I know, can you believe I am drinking beer?

The glass is so big and heavy I have to use both hands to hold it and drink it.
